Apartment on the beautiful Algarve

The beautiful Algarve has an interesting coastline set beneath a near constant crystal blue sky
and glorious sunshine. The region has nearly all year-round sunshine making a dream holiday
truly possible. The climate lends itself to many outdoor activities such as Golf, Tennis, Walks,
Horse riding, wind surfing the list is endless. Improved road and rail links now make inter
region travel far more attractive and exciting for those wishing to explore further a field.
The Northern part of Algarve has the ranges of Espinhaço de Cão, Monchique and Caldeirão that provide interesting walks and stunning scenery. This tranquil lush region is particularly noted for its fig trees, orange groves and almond trees in blossom. The Southern Algarve coastline consists of idyllic long wide sandy beaches, interspersed with rugged rock cliff formations and picturesque grottoes.

Alvor is a quaint old port at the mouth of the Rio Alvor, about 20km east of Lagos. It boasts stunning views across a natural estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. It has a protected nature reserve which is a sanctuary and haven for a variety of wildlife. Alvor is low key small village where traditional, modern architecture and a way of life have been blended together to retain charm and character. There are a good selection of restaurants and bars, which cater for all tastes and budgets, laid-back, intimate or lively. Obviously, being a working living fishing port the speciality of most restaurants are naturally fish, lobster or giant king prawns. There are restaurants located quayside where during a romantic meal you can watch the sunset over the estuary. The intertwining cobbled streets and side streets also have numerous intimate restaurants, bars and cafes. Alvor does not have nightclubs or discos so this sets the tone for the town.

The Dunas is a relatively new build located on the edge of the old town of Alvor a 5-minute stroll from the town centre. Two British tour companies use the Dunas and are featured in the Thomson and Thomas Cook brochures or on their own respective websites. Note Thomson Holidays rate the Dunas as 3 star plus. The apartments are either privately and centrally owned this mix ensures that the Dunas has a high standard of cleanliness and security. Marcolda the onsite management company have a reception area that is welcoming, helpful and thorough. There is a large outdoor pool for confident swimmers and a small safe pool for young children. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired for a small charge, however, there are also and shaded grass areas should you wish to shelter from the sun. The pool area is spacious and clean and low key making it a relaxing area to read a book, magazine or newspaper. If, you would like a snack there are various snach bars adjacent to the pool offering a good selection of drinks, snacks and meals. The pool area has been sympatheticaly landscaped with shrubs, plants and grass areas. For those of you that might like a game of tennis there is a court on site, however, watch those high lobs!

The third floor modern apartment has been fitted with luxury furnishings throughout with
some personal touches that we hope make your vacation one to remember.
A large terrace provides views over the pool and gardens across to the sea and mountains.
As the sunsets imagine yourself on the terrace, sipping an evening drink and or enjoying an alfresco
evening meal on one of the two terraces.
The apartment is fully air-conditioned to keep you cool during summer and warm
if renting the apartment over the winter months.
Due to saftey considerations the apartment is adults only.

We really enjoyed our holiday in your apartment. The facilities were excellent and the roof terrace was amazing - we made full use of it!!
It was our first visit to Portugal and hopefully will not be our last. Alvor is such a lovely village and the cafes, bars and reataurants so welcoming that we will find it difficult to go anywhere else. Arthur, October 2008

The Algarve has some of Europe’s best golf courses. For golf enthusiasts, the Alto Club and the Championship course at Penina are 5 and 10 minutes drive away respectively. There are 3 other high quality golf courses less than 20 minutes drive away, details can be provided on request.

The 5-minute short walk from our apartment takes you to one of the most breath taking beaches to be found on the Algarve. See and experience the expanse of soft golden sandy beach with the unspoilt natural beauty of the protected sand dunes. Breathe in fresh Atlantic air under bright clear blue skies and listen for the sound of waves as they caress the sandy seashore. Take a short or long stroll along the seashore and see the local fisherman's catch. Having built up an appetite or thirst go to one of the south facing beach cafes where you can order a variety of drinks or food to suit most tastes.

Alvor is centrally situated to enable you to get to the busier towns of Praia de Rocha, Portimao or Lagos or alternatively the lazier, quieter western Algarve resorts of Praia de Luz, Burgau or Sagres. Even quieter are the resorts on the west coast of Portugal where you could find a beach to yourself. Other places to visit include water parks, Aljezur, Cape St Vincent and the Monchique mountains which can be seen in the distance from our balcony. In the apartment you will find an information pack that will help you to make the most of your visit to Alvor.

Approximately 45 minute drive from Faro Airport and situated between the towns of Portimao (5km) and Lagos (17km). Car hire is not essential as the town and beaches are within walking distance, and many day-trips can be arranged from Alvor. If taxis are preferred, these are cheap and reliable and can be picked up at the taxi rank in town. Alvor is on a main bus route and the service is good. Options on car hire and airport transfers can be provided on request. Don't forget your driving licence!
